What to wear for a shoot in Scotland

So, you have booked an adventure session/elopement with us (I hope). You are trekking all the way, but have found yourself sat in front of your wardrobe anguished as you have no idea what to wear.

Luckily we have your back and here are some ideas on what to wear for this fun day.

The first and foremost is to make sure you feel comfortable in what you are wearing. This is only a guide and there is no pressure for you to fit any specific mold. This is merely just some guidance and inspo if you need it.

Let’s start with colours…

Ever heard of the colour theory? Colours transmit messages to our brain when we see them. It is used in all those famous movies to convey a mood or feeling. It speaks to us subconsciously. Red? Seductive, dangerous and passionate. White? Innocent and pure, free and careless. Blue? Tranquil and serene. Calm and at peace. Black? Alternative and edgy. The colours you implement on your shoot will tell a story and convey the feeling and mood you want the shoot to embody.

When unsure though, neutral colours are always a surefire win! Beiges, browns and whites blend in seamlessly with most environment and are always your best bet when you feel too overwhelmed with choice.

Hmmm.. fabric!

If you are a sensory human you know how important textures and fabrics are. But, not only that, they also subconsciously emit a mood and feel. Tartan? Rugged and adventurous. Someone who loves the outdoors. Also, Scottish! It sweeps you away to a castle. Velvet? Sexy and seductive. It brings a warmth and depth to your story. Linen? Relaxed. Carefree lovers bumbling around in summer. Running through the countryside. Fabrics also allow and restrict movements. You want to feel comfortable and be able to move around whilst being photographed. How else will you hop those puddles? This is important to consider when picking what to wear for your day.

The message

When thinking about the essence of your day, what is the style you would use to convey this. If you want a princess, lost lover feel… a chiffon, flowy sweetheart vintage gown and brown worn boots will definitely convey this message. Think carefully about what the feel is you want.

But what about my feet?

Footwear is oh so very important for shoots. Not only do you need the correct footwear to navigate the terrain but it also wraps up your outfit too. Make sure your shoes make sense with the story. Barefoot gives pagan lovers with wildfire love. Jimmy Choos give flash boujee vibes. Boots give sassenach adventurer.

Hair and make up.

Well, these things also convey the vibe you are going for. Whether it be loose and carefree, or you just whipped some mousse through your short hair for a tousled look. Think about what best represents what you are going for. If you want to make a statement or want your story told with a more natural approach. This is all about you and what makes you feel comfortable.

If you want to get wet and jump into a loch. Flowy neutral material is your thing. If it is a snowy day, make sure to wrap up tight with a scarf and hat. And if it all gets too much and you feel overwhelmed though – we are always a message away to help and guide you. You never need to struggle with this on your own.
