The Legal Bits –
This part is super easy. To legally tie the knot in Scotland, all you need to do is submit a Marriage Notice Form 9M10) to the local registrar at least 29 days before your wedding date. Which means if you are coming from abroad we can give you some guidance as where this will be. Literally – stress free! You just need to bring your ID and any additional documents they might require from you. The beautiful things about Scotland is you can also get married absolutely ANYWHERE. So we can recommend some stunners that might resonate with you for your day. Glencoe is quite a popular bet for elopements. But we also enjoy going off the well-trodden path and might suggest some secret nooks and crannies too.
Celebrant led weddings – what are these?
So in Scotland you don’t need to only acquire a registrar to get you hitched. You can also pick a celebrant that can tell your story like they were there from the very beginning. You can pick someone that really gets you both and give your ceremony meaning. We are more than happy to assist you with some amazing recommended celebrants that work with us. We might even suggest one that did our very own ceremony.
But what the heck will I wear?
If you know about Scotland you know that we can experience all 4 seasons in a day. She can be a moody git sometimes. So you need to be able to roll with it. We will make sure we are up to date with locations and weather patterns, but sometimes Scottish weather will do what Scottish weather does best. Whatever it wants! You will want layers, some good hiking boots or footwear and be prepared for rain or those Celtic winds. Sometimes they can pelt it out. Dresses with some movement and fabrics like wool, tweed might be a good match for this one.
Okay, let’s go – I am ready for the Scottish elopement experience.
Great. You are all ready for the day. Now, this isn’t just a simple walk down the aisle situation. If you want to get hitched in Scotland it is because you want the adventure that goes with it too. Make the most of it and embrace it. It doesn’t need to be too intense if you have any disabilities. You can still elope to Scotland with those too. Just make your team aware. There are loads of cozy pubs, beautiful lochs and glens to enjoy. Pack your spirit for adventure.
Tips to keep the stress at bay when eloping in Scotland:
Embrace moody skies. Embrace getting drenched by the rain. Not only does it make for amazingly raw emotive pictures, but also gives you even more reason to enjoy that hot chocolate afterwards. You deserved it.
Get in on it early! Most Scottish highland locations, forests and lochs fill up really quickly. So make sure to reach out and book things sooner rather than later.
Make sure to bring a snack. I know, this is probably not the point you were expecting here – but hanger is a vibe.
